Duke's Public House

What did we do for Dukes?

When past client and friend, Eric Mann of Aji Tram came to us and asked Make Shelter to be a part of his new venture we were on board 100%. It is pretty amazing to not only see our friends and clients grow but honored that they allow us to grow right alongside them in new endeavors. Mann wanted to open a tap room in downtown Lake Oswego in an old Firestone tire building, the bones of the building were inspiring right from the get-go. Big garage doors, tons of natural light… YES! We worked with DeForm Construction and Koble Creative Architects to take on the old space and turn it into something unlike any other restaurant and bar Lake Oswego had ever seen and we did just that. First we created renderings and designed the interior of the space, while our in house graphic designer created the branding for Dukes. Being able to not only design the interior but the brand in house creates a cohesive design that can be felt in every aspect of Dukes. After getting signed off on the design we then got to work building all of the elements from tables, fire pits, awnings, stools, racks, tap lists, murals, wall decor, tap towers, railings, you name it. In addition we picked out all the paint colors, chairs, lighting and flooring. It all came together and in August 19’ they opened their doors and they’ve been cranking ever since.

Inspiration.

We wanted to create a space that was inviting, that used a ton of natural light, was family friendly, sports friendly and a great place to shoot the shit and grab a beer. We wanted the elements in the space to reflect a sports theme but in a very subtle and tasteful way.

Favorite element.

The steel formed and Hickory 12' bar tables in the center of the space along with the four foot industrial tube lighting throughout.

Things to look out for.

That big blue enclosed TV box for outside viewing pleasure.
The great bottle shop and product displays upstairs.
The wall mural behind the bar. All the subtle shapes were created based on sports courts and fields.
The duke himself. He's only about 42" tall now but he runs the place.
